ModCloth STORYBOARD CONTEST!

Ok folks, get out your thinking hats, sense of style and creativity! Modcloth want you to create a Storyboard of your favorite digs. Here are a few tips on creating an awesome storyboard:

Tip 1. Start with a Theme
Styleboard standouts begin with a clear-cut idea or theme. It could be a color, a decade, a movie, a celebrity, or pretty much anything you want! Simply ask yourself what you are inspired by then build your styleboard around it!

Tip 2: Use the Tools
When you start creating a styleboard, you’ll see a suite of tools located above the canvas and below the words “Styleboard Editor,” We’ve provided you with these tools to help you better customize your styleboard and make it look just the way you want it to. For example, the “Hide Bg” tool is very useful for hiding the extra white space around products. The “Copy,” “Flip,” and “Arrange” buttons are super helpful with positioning of products. If you familiarize yourself with these tools, you can better utilize them in the way that works best for you! To learn more about them, check out this post about your styleboard editor!

Tip 3: Think About Your Layout
When creating your styleboard, you can arrange products any way you choose. Some people prefer making ‘boards with products strategically placed side by side to create clean and simple appearance. Others opt for the more artistically cohesive feel of a layered collage of products. Both options rock! It’s up to you to choose which to use!

Tip 4: Fill Up the Canvas
Rockin’ styleboards make good use of the entire canvas. To best work the space you’ve got, click and drag the corners of products to resize the image to fit the space. If you’ve added all the products you want and still see a bit of blank space, fill it with the stickers provided in the decorations tab!

Tip 5: Tell Us Why It Rocks!
No styleboard is complete without an awesome title and a clever description. If you’re drawing a blank on what to say, think back to what inspired your styleboard to begin with and share those thoughts!

SUNDAY MORNING FINDS

Last Sunday, after not doing much internet-ing for a few weeks, I found myself sucked into the vintage vortex on Etsy. The finds there are getting better and better…it’s quite exciting!

That morning alone, I found three pieces that stole my heart:

1. Vintage wooden treasure chest- parisiangirldreams
chest measures approximately 3″ tall x 4″ wide. This item is in good rustic condition. The lid is hinged with a metal bracket for closing on the front of the chest.

2. 50s Peplum Pencil Full Tulle Skirt Sleeveless Rhinestone Flower Chest Beige Coffee Dress- caramelizedvintage

I just love this sleeveless dress! It has cute little flowers with rhinestone centers all over the chest of the dress. The pencil skirt and full skirt over it adds a feminine sophistication to this dress! The dress is secured by fabric buttons along the front and a hook and thread eye and snap at the waist. The pencil skirt underneath is secured by a metal hook and eye.

3. Vintage 70s Hippie Boho Dress and Top Pattern with Transfers 34 bust size 12 Mc Calls 4473- weezieduzzit

I really wish they made dresses like this still. However, there’s no time like the present to learn to sew!

she & him “THIEVES” VIDEO PREMIERE

She & Him have released their second single, a grainy black and white video for “Thieves”, that features child-versions of Zooey Deschanel & M. Ward.

IT’S HARD TO KEEP THE LINE BETWEEN THE PAST AND THE PRESENT

Just want to share this insanely beautiful look that Drew Barrymore was sporting at the Grey Gardens premiere. Initially, I was pretty against this film (the real Grey Gardens being something I love passionately) but having watched the movie I realized it’s not at all the frame-by-frame remake of the documentary I feared it would be. It’s a beautiful portrayal of the most oddest, honest and quirky women to every grace cinema.

Beautiful hairpiece! Finger waves! Nude, bias-cut gown! It’s all too lovely.
Since I was a teenager, I’ve had irrationally huge love for Ms. Barrymore, and even though some people make fun of me for it, the love continues.

A PERFECT DRESS

I’ve realized the importance of neutral foundation pieces, such as a perfect grey dress.

I love, love this dress, especially the top half. I love the cut, the color, the collar. But by the time we meander down to the base of the skirt, the piping-embroidery is out of control! I think it would be lovely in another context, but here I think it’s just too much. My love for the dress is so strong, however, that I’ve really considered painstakingly removing all of that piping myself.

But then that seems crazy.

ZOOEY DESCHANEL

Zooey Deschanel is known for her quirky beauty and ability to change her look and persona in an instant. She first got our attention in the film Mumford and has since gone on to playing the older stewardess sister in Almost Famous and the goth makeup-counter attendant in The Good Girl. She is the vintage darling of the fashion world with her flapper-era sense of style. Zooey herself admits her love for vintage clothing in a recent article, “I love old music, old movies, screwball comedies, vintage clothes, and basically I’m an old-fashioned gal.”
